All-on-4 Dental Implants For Stability and Reliability

If you are missing all of your upper or lower teeth, an implant-supported restoration can provide a stable and comfortable alternative to a traditional denture. Traditional dentures rest on top of your gums and rely on suction and adhesive, meaning they can shift when you are eating or speaking. In contrast, implant-supported dentures remain fixed in place. At Ray Dental in Little Rock, AR, Dr. Steven Ray can coordinate care and restore All-on-4® dental implants. This advanced technique allows more patients to qualify for implant treatment. Dr. Ray uses only zirconia restorations to create strong, reliable, and highly aesthetic full-arch replacements.

The All-on-4 technique places implants at an angle within the jaw, maximizing available bone tissue.

Advantages of Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants offer substantial benefits over traditional methods of replacing teeth, especially for more widespread tooth loss. Many denture patients feel self-conscious about their restorations. They may find themselves smiling and laughing less often, or unable to comfortably enjoy their favorite foods. In addition, when dentures shift against the soft tissue of the gums, it can cause irritation and sores.

Dental implants ensure your denture stays in place during everyday activities, allowing you to smile confidently and enjoy all the foods you love.

An implant-supported denture negates these concerns. Instead of relying on the gums for support, the restoration attaches to small titanium posts embedded into your jawbone. This support system ensures your denture stays in place during everyday activities, allowing you to smile confidently and enjoy all the foods you love. In addition, dental implants protect the health of your jawbone against atrophy, which is a common effect of missing teeth. While traditional dentures cost less than an implant-supported option, they simply do not offer the same long-term benefits.

Explore Your Candidacy

To qualify for treatment with dental implants, you must be in good oral health and have sufficient jawbone density to support the implant posts. Dr. Ray can conduct a full oral health examination to determine if this treatment option is right for you. For certain patients, Dr. Ray can also perform a bone grafting procedure to restore their candidacy before implant placement. However, the All-on-4 technique is often recommended specifically because it minimizes the need for bone grafting. Keep in mind that patients must also be healthy enough to safely undergo surgery. If you do not qualify for dental implants or are concerned about surgery, Dr. Ray can recommend an alternative treatment plan to better address your needs.

Receiving Your Implant-Supported Denture

After your initial consultation with Dr. Ray, he can design a personalized treatment plan for your full-arch replacement and refer you to a trusted oral surgeon or another type of specialist.

Implant Placement

During the first phase of treatment, the surgeon will place four implants into your jaw. The posts will be strategically placed to provide optimal support for your restoration, which allows the doctor to use a fewer number of implants than for traditional methods. Most patients will receive a temporary denture at this time and need to wait four to six months for the treatment site to heal.

Restoration

Once you have healed and the implants have fused with the jaw, you can return to our office and Dr. Ray can attach small connector pieces, known as abutments, to your implants. Then we will use our intraoral scanner to take digital impressions so our laboratory can create your customized restoration.

At Ray Dental, our dentures feature prosthetic teeth made of zirconia. Zirconia creates a much stronger and more reliable restoration than other materials, in addition to providing incredibly lifelike aesthetics. It typically takes a few weeks for our partner lab to fabricate custom zirconia dentures. When they are complete, Dr. Ray can affix your restoration to your implants for a fully restored smile.
